Students will need to create a free account if they do not already have one by clicking on "Student." Then, they will need to complete the steps for creating an account. Once they have created an account, they may complete the ACT Pre-quiz #1. This will create a "Study Path" for the student.

Parents have the option to create an IXL family account, but it is not required for the parents or students to have an account.
 
Student Instructions
Students do not have to log in to use the site. For this week students may click on the first skill to practice under "Reading strategies". The first skill is "A. Main idea 1. Determine the main idea." IXL allows students to complete 10 practice questions per day for free. After ten items it will prompt them to login, but this is not required.

Students will read the passage titled "Authors: Homer" and complete a short quiz to get feedback. When students click on the link it may prompt them to login into Newsela.com. Students may click on "Microsoft" and use their school email address and password to create the account. Once they are logged in they will be able to read the passage and complete the quiz. This passage and quiz will also be posted on their course page on Schoology if they have trouble accessing the passage online.

Students can login to CommonLit through Clever or by going to CommonLit.org. There will be a short story for the students to read and then complete the quiz. There is also a Parent Guide that is included with each selection to help you further your student's understanding.

Login to CommonLit through Clever or go to CommonLit.org. When you come to your class you will see a short story, "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker, that you are to read. Read the story carefully, annotate if you would like and then complete the quiz. Remember, you can also listen to the story.

Activity 1 Construct a One Paragraph writing (8-12sentences) about your learned experience with the research PAPER This paragraph should be a reflective piece that includes but is not limited to academic language that you have been learning or have learned while completing your research paper. Please be mindful to limit the use of first person pronouns and contractions. Questions to be answered in your paragraph writing: 1. What was your thesis statement or how did you construct your thesis statement? 2. Explain whether is was difficult, moderately easy, or easy to prove your thesis? 3. What did you learn about the relativity of content of the play or novel used to complete the research paper or what message do you believe this play or novel could teach in society? Do you believe that you have learned enough to be able to write another paper of this magnitude? If you would like feedback, please submit your work by April 3rd via pdf in MLA format, 12 font size, and double-spaced.
