Your student will use IXL to practice the two skills pictured above which are H1: Compare information from two texts, and H2: Compare two texts with different genres. Some students have accounts already set up through their school, but IXL is free to all students during this time, so an account is not necessary. Most students should aim for a SMART score of 80 or higher, but we understand that this is not appropriate goal for all students. Students in exceptional language arts should attempt to achieve a SMART score of 90. Students who struggle in language arts should stop after 30 minutes even if they have not achieved a score of 80. At the end of the practice session, students should take a screen shot of their final score and email it to their ELA teacher.

Student Instructions
If you have an IXL account through your school, please log in. Otherwise, you may just go to IXL.com. Click on "Learning" and then "Language Arts." Under 6th grade, practice the following skills. H1: Compare information from two texts, and H2: Compare two texts with different genres. Practice each skill until you achieve a SMART score of 80 OR until you have practiced for 30 minutes. Send a screen shot of your final score to your teacher.

Learning Opportunity Objective
The student will answer questions to compare information from two different passages.

Comments
IXL is able to be customized for students. Exceptional students, for example, may practice the exact same skills are the 7th or even 8th grade level. Please email your ELA teacher with specific questions.

Parent Instructions
Parents, Please know that while we would like our students to practice their math skills, nothing is as important as you having a happy and balanced home. This assignment is one of my favorite lessons to share with students for review. I think it is straight-forward and covers the rate and ratio skills learned this year very well. However, I am a math teacher and most of you are not. If there are problems that are confusing or frustrating - please, skip them. I have included a key in the second document, but even math teachers do not always teach topics the same way so it is possible that the steps I used are not the ones your child is familiar with. It's okay. These are skills that every sixth grade in BCS has covered this year. Good luck and reach out to your child's teacher with any questions you have.

Student Instructions
Students, I hope you are doing well and treating your parents kindly. The attached packet reviews rate, ratio and percent. It has ten pages, so you can do two pages per day Monday through Friday. All of the skills were covered in you classes this year except section 9d on tax and discount. You may skip that page if you'd like. A key is attached so that you may check your own work after you have completed the problems each day. Please email your teacher when you have completed the packet. Let your teacher know any sections you struggled with or did not understand after checking your work.

Learning Opportunity Objective
Review of rates, ratios, and percent
