Parent Instructions
Students can log in through Clever or this site is allowing free access for signing in with an email address. Once you have logged into BrainPop, type into the search bar: Roots, Prefixes, & Suffixes. There are several activities to go along with he short video provided. Your student may need your help or permission to print the scavenger hunt boards (jpg files) which are labeled as Prefix and Suffix. Encourage your student to complete the scavenger hunt boards. Ask to see what progress they are making and ask about some of the meanings of the words. Once the student has completed their new word list, read over it with your student. Continue to mention any words you hear or use throughout your daily experiences that have prefixes or suffixes.
 
Student Instructions
1. Log into Brain Pop and type in the search bar Roots, Prefixes, & Suffixes 2. Watch the video and do any of the activities provided 3. Get permission from your parent to print the SCAVENGER HUNT pages (prefix. jpg) and ( suffix. jpg) 4. Find words throughout your daily experiences that have each prefix or suffix. Listen while others are speaking. Identify these words you see while reading or playing games. 5. Write the words in the correct boxes. 6. Highlight or underline the root part in each word you have written in each box of the scavenger hunt pages. 7. Using the roots you have underlined or highlighted and the prefixes and suffixes from the scavenger hunt pages, create a list of as many real words you can. Can you add a prefix and a suffix to the root to make a word? You can even challenge your family to a contest.

Students must show their work. You can print out the lessons or use notebook paper to solve the problems. To extend the learning, students can draw models to answers the questions. This is considered showing their work, as well. These lessons require students to use the strategy of the formula Volume= length x Width x Height (V=lwh) solve the problems. Available with this lesson: Student reteach and enrich worksheets for extra practice.

Complete the Share and Show problems for each lesson: Even Numbers Only Lesson 8: Volume of Rectangular Prisms Lesson 9: Algebra-Apply Volume Formulas. Complete the reteach/ enrich worksheets for Lessons 6 and 7, if extra practice is needed.

Read the additional information in the article and review the definitions of the important vocabulary. Third, answer the discussion questions listed at the bottom of the page. Students, go to http://www.cosmos4kids.com and click on Galaxies. Read about the different kinds of galaxies. You may go on the the next page by clicking the purple link that says "next page on galaxies". Also notice that there is a cool NASA video link at the bottom of each galaxy page explaining in more detail types of galaxies. When you are finished reading, draw a picture of the types of galaxies that you have learned about and label each picture.

Clever Account- Studies Weekly
 
Parent Instructions
Students can log into their Clever accounts to access Studies Weekly accounts. Username and passwords are their student ID numbers. Once logged into Clever, students can click the Studies Weekly icon (Red). We use the "Tennessee Fifth Grade Studies Weekly Industrialization on to the Civil Rights Movement." Students will click on Week 2 to read the text, play games, and complete questions/crossword puzzle. There are also virtual field trips that students can take. If you want, there is a quiz students can check for their understanding. This will not be for a grade, only to review these important skills.

Log into Clever, and click on the Studies Weekly icon (Red). Your username and password are your student ID numbers. Finally, your child will create an advertisement persuading kids &/or parents to join the Imagination Library. They may use paper & art supplies or make a digital ad (document, video, etc.). They may take a picture of their work, submit it as a file upload to SeeSaw, or create it in SeeSaw. As an optional activity, your child may watch "GoodNight with Dolly" on Thursdays at 6 p.m. The link is on the Imagination Library page.
