Learning to make correct citations using the MLA format is necessary for future research-based writing that you will be doing in high school and beyond. You may be provided practice for this type of writing experience through our distance-learning activities as well.

Students will sign up for their individual school. They will read and answer questions for 3 passages. Their teacher can see how much time is spent on each passage and the student should be making notes and annotating the text.

Once you have logged in, you will complete the 3 readings for the week. They are: Hammurabi’s Code: An Eye for an Eye, Be a Supreme Court Justice, Freedom of Religion and Free Speech and Press. You can communicate with classmates by posting notes on what your thoughts are. You can highlight words to get the definition. You can annotate the text. Your teacher can see any notes you create, as well as how much time you spend on each passage. There are 3 parts to this assignment. The first is Identifying verbs, the second is an Introduction to subject-verb agreement, and the third is agreement with compound subjects.

We know that many of the skills needed to perform well on the ACT are introduced in middle school courses. We want to encourage students to start preparing for the ACT now. They will use iXL to start practicing the ACT skills.

Titles are available in six languages and cover a wide variety of topics as well as classical literature.

Parents: For this week's Enrichment activity, students will follow the directions on the Legends of Learning Step Sheet to create an account and log-in to play a gaming style review of Percent. (See the Teacher Assigned PLAYLISTS) Students can also complete a cumulative math skill review in The Awakening Game that is also available in Legends of Learning.

Students: You will download the file "StepSheet- Legends of Learning" and follow the directions to create an account and log-in. If your teacher has an account, you may receive a different TEACHER CODE to use via your email, REMIND, or Curve. Once your account is created, you will log-in and there are several PLAYLISTS assigned to review percent and comparing rates. There is also a challenging review of all math skills in The Awakening Game. You can play The Awakening review game automatically once you log-in, but your assigned Playlists may not show up immediately. If you are new to Legends of Learning, your playlists will appear after you join, so check back later in the day or the next day to see the new playlists.
