Your child can use non-standard items to measure objects. Just a reminder that to measure things without a ruler the items must be the same thing and the same size and no spaces in between. Pennies, paper clips, new crayons, pencils, are ideas for non-standard units of measurement.
 
Student Instructions
Watch Sid the Science Guy and learn how to measure objects in your home with non-standard units of measurement. Choose 5 things to measure and record your findings on a piece of paper. You can submit your work to Seesaw if your school uses Seesaw!

Go on the “teddy bear” scavenger hunt through two Bartlett neighborhoods. Have your child keep count of the bears you see in people’s windows in each neighborhood. He/she will compare the number of bears and decide which neighborhood has more bears and which has less. Your child will use tens and ones explain their answers to you. They will also create an addition sentence and find the total number of bears you all found on your adventure. OR Using a sheet of paper make a tens and ones mat. (Line down the middle. Tens on the left, ones on the right). Use rice or beans and show the numbers: 32, 18, 49, 60, 5 on your tens and ones mat. Order them from least to most on the back
